Most genetic testing for infertility includes a karyotype which takes a zoomed out look at your chromosomes. The chromosomes are like the books that hold your genetic material and the karyotype makes sure you have the right number of books in the right order.

DNAide’s Advanced Fertility Genetic Testing panels take the books off the bookshelf and zoom in on the pages that contain the genes we know are related to male and female infertility. Some of these gene are newly discovered and not tested for on tests offered by other laboratories. There are pros and cons to this that we’ll talk about at your introductory appointment, but it was important to us that the testing be as thorough and up to date as possible.

The bottom line is that the test we’ve made is not available on any laboratory’s website. It has been custom designed to be as thorough and up to date as possible.

Short answer: no.

Carrier screening helps you learn if you’re at risk of having a child with a genetic condition. But it tells you nothing about whether or not you’ll ever actually have that child in your arms. This is because the goal of carrier screening is different from the goal of Advanced Fertility Genetic Testing, and so the genes included on each test are different. If you’ve done carrier screening you probably have not been tested for most of the genes tested for on our fertility panels.

No, but it can speed up the process. DNAide is run by genetic counsellors. We need a doctor to order your genetic testing. If your doctor refers you and can order the testing, this can speed things up. But if you don’t have a doctor who can order your testing, DNAide works with expert fertility doctors who will meet with you and help you get the testing ordered.

Cost of the program ranges:

• $1499 to $1709 + local taxes for one person

• $2299 to 2580 + local taxes for a couple.

This includes the cost of testing and all appointments. If you have your first appointment and decide that testing is not right for you, cost of the initial appointment is $399 + local taxes. All costs are in CAD.

Yes at this time only people who are physically located in Canada for all appointments and during the testing process can be part of the program. We hope to expand to select US states in the future. Sign up to our waitlist to be the first to know when we launch in new locations.

How long things take varies since there are a lot of moving parts:

• Initial appointment: We usually have slots available with as little as one week notice, two at the most. Schedule your initial appointment here. If you need something more quickly we can book you urgently for an additional $99 fee. Contact us to request an urgent appointment.

• Testing: Once you’ve decided you want testing, things could take as little as 6 weeks. This could be longer depending on specific factors involved in your case. We’ll review them at your initial consult.

There are a few things that people may have experienced on their fertility journey that make it more likely that their infertility has a genetic cause. Some of these include:

• Most or all of the eggs retrieved for IVF are immature

• Most or all of the eggs did not fertilize during IVF

• Most or all of the fertilized eggs did not reach the blastocyst stage

• More than one egg retrieval with empty follicle syndrome, unrelated to trigger medication (genuine empty follicle syndrome)

• Recurrent pregnancy loss

• Multiple molar pregnancies or multiple pregnancies (or embryos) with triploid/polyploid genetic results

• A fertility diagnosis (e.g. premature ovarian insufficiency, azoospermia) and wanting to know if there was a genetic cause

• Your doctor told you they suspect your infertility is genetic

This panel of genes was custom curated to include some of the most newly discovered genes related to infertility. We found that most laboratory infertility genetic tests were outdated and didn’t include key genes that fertility patients needed, so we designed our own!
