Genetic Journey #3: Segmental mosaic success
This is a mosaic embryo success story that occurred after a patient was out of normal embryos, and joked with her doctor hoping the science had changed about the embryos she had left.
These are personal stories, meant to inspire hope and help remind others they aren’t alone. They are for educational purposes and should not be considered medical advice.
This person shared their story using our submission form! Has your TTC journey involved a mosaic embryo transfer, balanced translocation or inversion, termination for medical reasons that involved genetics, PGT-M, or another genetic twist? Share your story here!
“After my first child via IVF, I was out of “normal” embryos. During my call with my fertility doctor to discuss another retrieval, I joked “the science hasn’t changed, has it?” She surprised me with “Well, actually…” before telling about how low-level mosaics may be more viable than previously thought and how I should talk to a genetic counselor. I have my baby girl today thanks to my off-handed comment and the brilliant women in the field supporting those of us on this journey.”
The PGT-A result for the embryo transferred. It shows a low level segmental mosaic result. It is mosaic for a deletion involving chromosome 10.
We asked the submitter: What would you want someone going through something similar to know?
“Ask so many questions and talk to a [genetic] counselor who is up-to-date on the research!
