  • Once the laboratory has your sample, results will be available in approximately 30 days.

    It also takes time before testing for you to learn about carrier screening. The fastest way to do this is via our on demand program.

    Overall you should expect this process to take 6 weeks, but we will do our best to make it faster if needed.

  • Book a 1-on-1 appointment with one of our genetic counsellors, or watch our on demand program. Pick whichever option feels best for you!

  • DNAide does testing on a saliva sample. The laboratory will ship you a sample collection kit. It comes with a pre-paid FedEx envelope for you to send your sample back in.

    If you are doing testing via your fertility clinic the process may be different.

  • Unfortunately we can only facilitate carrier screening for individuals located in Canada at this time.

  • DNAide uses Igenomix for their testing and most people proceed with the Igenomix CGT Plus panel. You can find the gene list here. If you are interested in testing for a smaller number of conditions or something different, be can often facilitate this as well. If you prefer to use a different laboratory this can usually be arranged.

    If you are doing testing via your fertility clinic they may use a different laboratory or test for a different number of conditions.

  • Expanded carrier screening is not covered by provincial health plans. You are required to pay for the cost of testing out of pocket. If you have a family history of a genetic condition or meet certain criteria set out by your province, you may be eligible for provincial coverage of testing for one gene, or a small number of genes. If this is something you are interested in, we recommend booking our comprehensive carrier screening package so that we can review your family history.

  • Since genetic testing has risks, it is our responsibility to make sure you understand them before you go ahead with testing - even if you already know what those risks are. This means either the on demand or comprehensive package is needed so we can ensure everything is understood before you do testing.. Contact us if you want to discuss things further.

  • No! Patients in Canada do not need a doctor’s referral. We work with doctors who can order your testing for you.
