It isn’t surprising that sometimes genetic testing involves family members. If your relative has asked you to do a genetic test so that they can understand their own test result better, or so that they can do genetic testing on their embryos created through IVF you might want to help them. But getting that testing done yourself isn’t always easy in Canada. You may not have a doctor, and even if you do, they might not know how to help. At DNAide, we make follow up genetic testing for family members easy.

Frequently Asked Questions about relative genetic testing

DNAide’s test facilitation package costs $349 + tax and includes two appointments with your genetic counsellor, a test order from a doctor, and admin support throughout the testing process. It does not include the costs of testing which can vary. We will do our best to get your testing covered by your provincial health plan. If necessary, we will discuss out of pocket costs with you at your initial appointment.

DNAide has doctors who can order certain genetic tests for you. This includes carrier screening, products of conception testing, and testing for autosomal recessive and X-linked recessive conditions. Contact us if you’re not sure we can help.

This depends on the genetic test that you need. We’ll review this during your initial appointment. If you have time constraints we may have options available to speed things up.
