PGT-A is in the news a lot these days. This is why I was very happy to join Dr. Beatriz Rodriguez Alonso on Fertility Frontiers as part of her PGT-A series. Some of the key takeaways:

  • PGT-A is a screening tool, not a diagnostic test. It should be used to prioritize embryos for transfer based on the potential for an embryo to lead to an ongoing pregnancy. PGT-A should NOT be used as a tool to predict the health of a future child

  • Many patients misunderstand the purpose of PGT-A, and often think it will guarantee a healthy baby

  • True informed consent before PGT-A is critical. Patients deserve tailored counseling to navigate the nuances of PGT-A results like mosaicism and aneuploidy
