Genetic Testing on Miscarriage Tissue
If you are experiencing a pregnancy loss, we know this can be an overwhelming and devastating time. If this is a first trimester loss, your doctor may have told you that the most likely cause is a random chromosome error that was totally out of your control. This is true for 50-60% of losses that happen before 10 weeks. Genetic testing can be performed on the miscarried tissue to determine if your loss was due to a chromosome error. Medically this is referred to as POC testing or Products of Conception Testing.
If you’re in Canada and are interested in this testing but your doctor wasn’t able to arrange it for you, we can help.
How it works
Meet with us for an introductory appointment
Take a look at our online calendar and find a time that works for your schedule for an introductory meeting. Can’t find a time? Email us at hello@dnaide.com
At this appointment we’ll hold space for everything you’re feeling during this difficult time. You’ll meet with Meaghan, a genetic counsellor and Certified Miscarriage Doula. You can share anything on your mind about miscarriage. You can also discuss genetic testing about miscarriage tissue to help you decide if it is right for you.
Sample Collection
A sample collection kit will be sent to your home. If you have your loss at home we’ll walk you through what you need to do to collect the sample and send it to the lab for testing. If you’re having a D&C you can bring the kit to your clinic so they can collect the sample for you. We know this isn’t an easy part of the process but we’re here to help every step of the way.
Result Review
All patients who work with DNAide for miscarriage tissue testing will meet with Meaghan to review results when they are available. Results usually take 7-10 days, and Meaghan will contact you to book a review appointment when they are almost ready.
