All appointments are conducted by phone or video. You will receive an email with the link to join your Zoom call once your appointment is confirmed. DNAide recommends using a computer, or tablet with a large screen for your appointment. We often share our screen and use PowerPoint slides to explain complex concepts. It will be easier for you to see these slides if your screen is larger.

DNAide can't order genetic testing without an order from a doctor. Your doctor may have authorized genetic testing for you in advance of your DNAide appointment. In these cases, we can order genetic testing immediately if no further information is needed. Otherwise, any genetic testing will need to be reviewed with your doctor before ordering, but can be discussed in your appointment. For some Canadian patients we may be able to connect you with a doctor who can help you access the testing you need. Learn more about the genetic tests we commonly facilitate here.

This depends on why we are seeing you for genetic counselling. In general we will start the appointment by getting to know you. It’s important that we know what questions you have and what you hope to gain from the appointment so we can best meet your needs. Together we’ll come up with an idea of how we should spend our time together.
Your genetic counsellor will likely have some information to share with you. This might be about a genetic test you’re thinking of doing, or about a test result that’s already available. We’ll check in with you often to see what questions you have. We often use visual aides, like PowerPoint slides to help explain complex concepts. We’ll share these slides with you when your appointment is over. If you prefer to learn information in a different way, let us know on your intake form.

Speak with your team at Pollin to request a referral. Once they've sent it you can schedule an appointment using the same steps as above. If you want to see us without a referral from Pollin, you can still book with us but DNAide will not automatically receive your records from Pollin, or share your consult notes with them.
